Focus is knowing what you want

Focus is knowing what you want

Steve Jobs points “focus” as the key element of success.

Business leaders highlight the importance of “focus”.

There are courses on “focusing” on “focus”.

What is “focus” in 2024?

Focus is knowing what you want.

But is it really rigorously saying “No” to the things that are not directly related with your goals?

Absolutely not.

We have beautiful typography in Apple products as Steve Jobs said “yes” to a calligraphy class back in the day. At first glance, it was not related to technology at all. However, in the end, the dots were connected.

Dots will always connect if you know what you want. Each piece of information will create a uniqueness for you.

If you are an employee, you might think that you are not so different.

If you are an employer, you might think that you are not so different as well.

Your work will not be unique when you add more features to your work.

Your work will be unique when you eliminate all the unnecessary things.

When you eliminate, you reflect your raw creativity in your work.

Your work will be unique because of you.

Because of your talent stack.

Because of all the dots that you collected.

Willingness to connect the collected dots is “focus”.

In order to collect dots,

Focus on expanding your knowledge in different areas. Combine unrelated fields such as history and physics, logic and designing, arithmetic and psychology.

Focus on saying “Yes” to fields that you have a deep interest in.

Focus on saying “No” to any meeting or person pulling you down.

As long as you collect dots with a certain mindset and goal, your focus will be stable.

Know what you want.

That is all it takes.
