All that was mortal

Westminster Abbey.
There lie the bones of the man.
The bones lie under an inscription.
“Here lie the remains of all that was mortal in Sir Isaac Newton.”
Isn’t it one of the most elegant inscriptions that has ever been written?
“All that was mortal” gets me every time.
The mortal part will be gone, but how will you be remembered?
One of the most overlooked aspects of an individual’s life is reputation.
How you will be remembered is deeply related to your reputation.
For reputation, one needs integrity and consistency.
When you combine integrity and consistency, you create your reputation.
You create all that is not mortal.
And all this can be lost in a heartbeat.
It can be lost with a silly risk.
And with an uncalculated action.
But, as long as you
- seek to be a lifelong self-learner,
- are in a constant search for better methods of thought,
- take calculated risk while accepting the reality of randomness,
all that was immortal in you will stay here for a long time.
